Despite our never-ending love for Sonam Kapoor’s style, we always anticipate Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s turn on the Cannes red carpet. She veers between being a train wreck and looking fabulous at the Cannes Film Festival, and this year is no different.
Look 1: Aishwarya at the Inside Llewlyn Davis premiere.
We think she looks beautiful in this Elie Saab gown. Elegant, in control and fabulous. Some fashion bloggers have said she should have done an up-do, but we think the soft waves add a romantic feel to the ensemble.
Look 2 + 3: L’Oreal Paris Photos and Press Calls
Elegant, soft and sophisticated. Quite a departure from Aishwarya Rai at Cannes in 2012. She wears a Zac Posen skirt, Saint Laurent shirt and Armani belt, and looks great.
This look is a bit disjointed. The all black outfit seems at odds with the sunny, happy climate in Cannes. We also don’t like the look of the shirt hanging outside of her pants, it would have looked better tucked in. But, the lips pop and that’s enough to save this look.
Look 4: Celebrating 100 Years of Indian Cinema Dinner
Aishwarya wears Sabyasachi. This type of look has been repeated on so many actresses by Sabyasachi over the past year – the headband, high neck blouse, black and gold embellished sari. A real disappointment. We think Aishwarya would have looked better without the headband and with a different hairstyle.
Look 5: At the Blood Ties premiere
We’re on the fence with this one. Aishwarya wears an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla gown – you may remember she wore a sari by the same designers at Cannes in 2012. Overall she looks nice, but that’s not a gown we’d choose for her – it’s a bit heavy for the red carpet, although the intricate details and pearls are very pretty. Her hair is also more of the same, and it would have been nice to see it swept back, maybe in a braided up-do or over the shoulder like Sonam Kapoor did.
Look 6: On the Cleopatra red carpet
No, no, no. The Gucci gown is pretty, the colour is nice, but that hair is awful. It ages her in a bad way, and shows off the lines on her neck – why don’t they apply better makeup there? A different hairstyle and this could have been a winner.
