Our favourite fashion week of the year is finally here! Delhi Couture Week always gives us cause to swoon and drool, and this year is no different. Day 2 brought two very different collections from Anamika Khanna and Monisha Jaising.
A favourite among Indian celebrities and socialites like Sonam Kapoor, Neha Dhupia and Pernia Qureshi, Anamika Khanna presented a gorgeous collection that was all about lace, florals and re-imagined ghararas. This is our kind of fashion! The designer played with volume, draping and structure, and mixed her signature waistcoats and sarees with gharara bottoms and dhoti pants. Trend spotting: Just as we saw with Sabyasachi’s Fall Couture collection on Day 1, French lace, high necks/bandghalas, layering, and floral prints and embroidery are all the rage this season, and we can’t wait to experiment with these trends.
Monisha Jaising’s “Happily Ever After” Collection
Monica Jaising’s focus has been resort wear in the past, and while there are a few pieces that will likely make it onto the red carpet sometime soon, this couture collection felt like it was made more for a fancy beach party. Silk sherwanis layered over shorts and embellished leggings; hints of French lace; kurtis paired with aqua blazers; and floor-length gowns were part of a collection created to channel a romantic, happily ever after vibe for the modern bride. There weren’t any pieces that stood out in this collection, although we did like the black sequin floor-length gown (above middle photo).
