It’s hard to reinvent your look when you’re attending 4 weddings, a baby birthday party, and a summer gala within the same month. We bring 5 Bollywood beauty inspired looks to help you standout in the crowd.

We were looking at the Diva’ni catalogue, and more than the clothing, we felt inspired by the range of Bollywood beauty looks. Herewith, a few of our favourite looks to inspire your makeup, accessories and outfits for the next wedding party, summer gala – or just for fun. Jugni Style Note: lose the Swarovski crystal embellished anarkalis – they are soooo overdone.

The black and white dame: Minimal accessories (choose one piece of statement jewellery in diamond or crystal), lace saris, beaded blouses, and fitted silk churidaar suits with little or no embroidery. Try dark berry-tinged lips, a sleek up-do or pinned up curls, 20s style.

The Bollywood mujra: Heavy, heavy embroidered lehengas and anarkali suits, lots of gold and semi-precious stone jewellery (preferably a maang tikka and passa on the head). Try wavy hair, kohl-lined eyes, and a glass of red wine.

Chiffon ki sari-clad heroine: Cat-eye black liner and a red pout paired with a flowing chiffon sari, pearl earrings, and lots of flowers (preferably tulips). The focus is on pastels, sheer fabrics, chiffon dupattas, and minimal jewellery. Hair is left open in waves. Try braiding your hair when wet, and then open when dry. Apply a light styling cream and voila – a modern day Rekha. Middle part is a must.

The model-turned-actor: Experimental, deconstructed updos, smokey eye makeup and nude lips, and lean silhouettes contrasted with volume. Try a tissue dupatta with an evening gown, a cage skirt instead of lehenga, or peplum top with your Indian outfit. Sky high heels (studs are accepted) complete the glamazon look.

The ethereal Indian beauty (ie. princess/rich bride role): Don’t go overboard, it’s all about balance. A heavy choker means smaller studs on the ears and a small maang tikka. Benarasi silk, rich gold embroidery, and light and airy net dupattas complete the look. Try a small red bindi, kohl-lined eyes, nude lips, and a naath (large nose ring in gold). Kundan jewellery is mandatory, but try artificial jewellery for less weight on the ears and your pocketbook.
