Sequin bordered dupattas, puff sleeves and full maxi skirts all starred in designer Vikram Phadnis’ collection at Lakme Fashion Week, Spring Resort 2012. The beautiful, Mughal-inspired collection included saris, anarkali suits, lenghas, jackets, and vests.

A huge Spring/Summer 2012 trends is floral prints, which Vikram included throughout his collection in fitted Nehru collar jackets, sari blouses, kurtas, and printed saris with broad silk borders. Menswear mimicked the women’s collection with lace, floral and silk borders as key details. A trend we’re borrowing is layering two or three contrasting printed shawls and dupattas – a simple way to update an older outfit.

Style Note: Don’t throw out your anarkali suits yet. Consider altering bright, heavy embroidered suits by pairing with a more simple gold or cream dupatta with a broad silk border, or add long, fitted sleeves in sheer material to sleeveless outfits. The focus is on rich fabrics, not crystals or stone embellishments.
