Red lipstick is our BBFF – best beauty friend forever. For reals. That’s why Rihanna’s look at the 2013 Grammy Awards sang to us. From her flawless skin to her matte red lips, Rihanna’s old Hollywood glamour beauty was divine.
And the best thing about her look (besides the custom made sheer Azzedine Alaia dress) is that the shade of red lipstick and her eye makeup look great on South Asian women too. Thanks to our makeup pro Neetu, you can recreate this head turning look in a few simple steps.
Beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin and it shows with Rihanna. Before starting every makeup routine make sure you complete the 3-step cleansing routine: cleanse, tone, and moisturize.
- Base: For this look, use Dior Nude Glow Foundation with a sponge starting from the center of the face outwards. Apply Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage concealer, a makeup artist favourite, underneath the eyes to cover any imperfections in the skin.
- Contour: Next use Make Up Forever Contour Palette #2 to define and sculpt the face. Apply the darker shadow in the hollows of the cheeks, below the jaw, and in the temples, always blending towards or into the hairline. Apply the lighter shade to the cheek bone, above the lip and on the bridge of the nose. Finish the skin by applying a very subtle amount of NARS Liberte Blush to the apples of the cheeks blending towards the tip of the ear.
- Eyes: The beautiful neutrals that help Rihanna’s eyes pop can be replicated with Too Face Matte Eye Shadow Collection. Using an angle brush, create a winged-out eye liner with Bobbi Brown Gel Liner. Coat the lashes with several coats of Covergirl Lashblast Mascara in intense black. For added drama, frame the eyes and add lots of volume with celebrity favourite, Shu Uemura Luxe Black Lashes.
- Lips: The final piece of this look are the gorgeous matte red lips. To ensure your lipstick will last all day, start by applying a small amount of NARS Face Prep to the bow of the lip and to smooth out lip texture. Next, use MAC lip liner Redd to fill in and shape the lips followed by NARS Jungle Red to polish off the bright red lips.
Insider Tip From a Makeup Pro: If you need to blend any blush into the skin for a more natural appearance, use a translucent powder to buff around the edges of the blush.
