Style News Flash: Anarkalis are out; kurta dresses and pleated lehengas are in. At least that’s what Manish Malhotra is saying with his Summer Resort 2014 collection at Lakme Fashion Week.
Key Trends: Pastel pinks, navy or beige offset with white embroidery, floral prints, threadwork embroidery-on-embroidery, and visible zips on sari blouses and kurta dresses. Anarkalis with broad borders are gone and replaced by more streamlined kurta-style dresses paired with slim trousers.
What to Wear in the Summer: Floral print everything! We love that Manish Malhotra stepped outside his comfort zone and worked with prints. To recreate this look at home, try a floral print blazer over a monochromatic sheer sari, or a flower print crop top as your sari blouse.
Investment Pieces: Get yourself a bandhgala (high-necked, Nehru-style) jacket. Cropped, waistcoat, knee-length and floor dusters all apply. It’s a trend we’ve seen from Sabyasachi for a few seasons, and it’s a piece that has the potential to work in both Indian and non-Indian wardrobes.
