Tarun Tahiliani showcased a collection of contrasts at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2014 in Mumbai.
Pretty, gauzy, gold-beige embellished lehengas and saris (perfect as Indian bridal wear), were offset by black and white anarkali suits, all-black ensembles with dhoti pants, and monochromatic menswear.
We loved the simplicity and elegance of the black and white threadwork embroidered saris. Men’s fashion was also streamlined for summer: white-on-white-on-white, or white kurtas topped with a black Nehru collar vest.
What we loved: White-on-white embroidered lehengas and anarkalis, sheer white capes, and the stunning contrast of black on white prints and embroidery.
Trend-spotting: Dhoti pants continue to be a favourite item for summer. Tarun Tahiliani layers his black, white and printed pants with black tanks, waistcoats, wrapped shawls, and belts.
Weakest piece of the lot: A pink floor-length anarkali worn by Indian actress Jacqueline Fernandez. It was a little too much “been there, seen that,” for our tastes.
