Krishna Mehta’s runway show at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2012 oozed regal opulence, with a collection focused on elegant bridal and formalwear.
Jackets, shrugs and lace covers were layered over palazzo pants, saris and lenghas, while last season’s floral print was reinvented through cutwork, embroidery, lace and woven silk.
Colour trends: Peach, salmon, ecru (pale grey-yellow), with purple, red, black and royal blue.
Fashion trends: Obi belts on everything – something we’ve seen in the past at Lotus Eye shows in Vancouver. Long structured jackets in brocade, layered over lenghas. Velvet, lace, georgette, tulle, cotton, and glossy, transparent Chanderi silk. Ombre and block print saris. Floral everywhere (but not as a print like previous seasons). Note the absence of anarkali suits, which have dominated festive and bridal wear for several seasons.
What we loved: Long jackets over lenghas, handwoven fabrics, cutwork lace, belts over saris, flashes of purple peaking beneath red/salmon/gold jackets.
