The pretty people are out in Mumbai – socialites mixing with film celebrities while paparazzi snap them sipping cocktails and sharing stolen kisses… which can only mean one thing. Welcome to Lakme Fashion Week!
The Winter Festive 2011 presentations began with a fashion freshman show – eight Gen Next designers experimenting with draping, textures and colours for unique pieces that stood out, regardless of whether they worked or not. The first day also included collections from veterans like Rohit Bal, Rina Dhaka and Payal Singhal, with JJ Valaya closing the evening with his signature regal and ornate style, and nods to his passion for art, design and photography.
Key Trends: Sheer, sheer, sheer. And we love it! Also spotted: lace, draping and long, flowing maxi gowns.
What We Loved: The Gen Next shows, with Theresa + Roger, and Shashanik + Prajwal catching our eye.
We Hope It Won't Make It To Retailers: …Nishka Lulla. Neeta Lulla's daughter's collection failed to impress.
Mayank Anand + Shraddha Nigam
