We're resigned to the fact that we'll never afford a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk, but these gorgeous pictures by ace photographer, Carter Smith, almost fill the void. Shot in India for the L'ame du Voyage Catalogue, the photographs feature pieces from the Louis Vuitton Travel Collection, and boy, did they have us swooning.

The imagery presents a sanitized, romantic, almost non-Indian version of India… but with that out of our minds, they are pretty to look at. They also represent Louis Vuitton's continued interest in India – last November, the fashion house revealed Diwali-inspired window displays at storefronts across the world, and Marc Jacobs also designed a limited collection of "sari dresses," using rich, jewel-toned silks.

As India continues to grow as a global economic leader, expect more collaborations and attention from international luxury brands targeting the oh-so-coveted South Asian consumer. Until then, drool over these images of Vuitton luggage and trunks.
