Come into the gloss. Manish Malhotra’s mirror-work embellished collection at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2014 brings a contemporary spin to a classic craft.
Expanding on his collection at India Couture Week 2014, Manish Malhotra designed a range of lehengas, saris, and gowns that used mirror-work in different sizes and colours to embellish halter tops and low-waisted lehengas. The contrast of the silver embroidery and mirrors against rich wine, pink, grey, and mauve fabrics made for a pretty collection. The use of tie-dye was unexpected, and the rose motifs were a nice touch.
Was the collection outstanding? No, but it’s classic Manish Malhotra – pretty and Bollywood-friendly – and sometimes that’s enough.
For men, there were the usual selection of bandhgala jackets and blazers paired with jodhpur pants. The blue sherwani with black stripes was nice, but menswear is an area that Manish Malhotra could certainly grow.
