Montreal has an air of the mysterious, creative and bohemian. And the world is taking notice. Montreal-based designers have been receiving worldwide recognition for their eclectic work, and one such Jugni Style favourite is Angie Johnson, the inventive mind behind Norwegian Wood, a Montreal born and bred line of accessories and clothing.

Started in 2008, the handmade collection of necklaces, earrings, harnesses and leggings have been touted by the who’s who of the fashion blogsphere, from Susie of Style Bubble to Tavi of Style Rookie. Norwegian Wood was also included in Top Shop’s Fall EDIT boutique, which features a hand-picked collection of international designers.

Our favourites include this edgy custom order cage skirt, available in different fabrics:

1. Cage skirt, leather, USD139.  2. Custom order cage skirt, USD129, seen here on queen michelle of kingdom of style.

Angie uses interesting and unique materials in her jewellery construction, including wood, fringe, leather and feathers, topped with layers of chains.  Paired with a basic tank, they evoke the bohemian feel seen in the Dries Van Noten S/S 2010 collection.

3. Feather fringe necklace, USD65.  4. Maximum fringe necklace, USD65.

5. Wood and leather necklace, USD75, at TopShop Edit.  6. Battle necklace, price on request.

The Spring 2010 collection, available on May 19, includes a particularly stunning necklace comprised of inset metal circles, pictured below.  More images of the new collection are up on the Norwegian Wood website. An online shop is in the works; until then a number of pieces are available on Etsy.com and other online vendors, as well as at the brick-and-mortar Headquarters Galerie + Boutique co-run by Angie in Montreal.

7. Spring 2010 circular necklace, price on request.
