Sometimes, especially when it’s in the name of shopping, a quick get-a-way to Portland, Oregon is worth the road trip.
Just under 500 KM and less than 5 hours away, a mini-vacay to Portland is a must this time of year. Land of Food Carts, Powell’s City of Books and Stumptown Coffee for all you caffeine lovers, this city has something for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re looking for luxury and fine-dining, then this definitely isn’t the hotel for you. Ace Hotel Portand is a small hotel located in historical downtown Portland, near PSU and the Pearl District. Portland is a hipster city, and the Ace Hotel is where you’ll see hipsters convene. Unique artwork graces the walls of each individual room, and don’t be surprised if your shower is located in the living area. This caught us by surprise, but after a few laughs… and uncomfortable jokes, this characteristic hotel has become one of our faves.
One of the main reasons one must visit Portland is their vibrant food scene. Conveniently located in the ACE Hotel, this European style tavern called Clyde Common serves delicious food and drinks in a casual and energizing space. We loved the fact that this gem served brunch, lunch, dinner and had a designated “Happy Hour.” Imagine good looking bartenders and interesting-looking, lively people sipping cocktails and eating great food until the wee hours of the night.
Once you’re had your fill of Voodoo Doughnuts and taken advantage of their “No TAX” policy, put on some comfy shoes and walk the city. Many of Portland’s breweries and distilleries offer complimentary tours and tastings. After having a beer… or two, head over to the Pioneer Courthouse Square, a thriving urban park and great for people-watching. And if you happen to be in Portland over the weekend, stop by the Portland Farmers Market. Enjoy live music and samples of wonderfully locally grown and prepared foods.
