Shabana Azmi’s career has spanned over 4 decades and includes films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Arth, Masoom, Fire, Midnight’s Children and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. She’ll speak about her life and work as an actor and activist championing the rights of women, minorities and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Accolades: She’s won the prestigious National Award five times, and her activism has won her the Gandhi Peace Price, the International Human Rights Award (France) and the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum, Davos, which she received along with Muhammad Ali, Michael Douglas and Gilberto Gil. Shabana Azmi will be awarded with an honorary degree by Simon Fraser University at a convocation ceremony on June 12, 2013.
