The Indian celebration of lights is done up so many different ways, but Vancouver Celebrates Diwali brings a contemporary spin to the holiday where good triumphed over evil. Haute fashion, great eats and gorgeous rangolis, plus their Diwali Downtown event features a Pocket Bhangra iPhone Orchestra. Need we say more?

Aside from electronic tunes, there are a ton of reasons why Diwali Downtown is the place to be this coming weekend. Bollywood Shenanigans will be doing their comedy thing, while the ethereal Scheherazaad Cooper will bring a little bit of Orissa to Vancouver, via her classical Odissi dance performance.

Other notable performers include world-renowned UK-based sitarist, Mohamed Assani, local beatboxers, BPM dropping hip hop and fusion beats, and our fave, a jam session between a human beatbox and an electric sitar. And it wouldn't be a celebration without dancing. We're looking forward to the always adorable Shan E Punjab youth Bhangra team, following their triumphant Olympic Celebration performances, and Aarti Pole, a classical Kathak dancer performing a duet with a Flamenco dancer.

Eat lots, get intricate mendhi done, and checkout an artistic spread by one of our favourite haute designers, Lotus Eye

Wishing you a blissful Diwali – xoxo, Jugni Style
