Jugni Style was at Toronto’s LG Fashion Week this past March, where local designers showed Fall/Winter 2010 collections that married international trends with Canadiana-cool inspired looks.

Homegrown designers like Pink Tartan, Saniya Khan, Joe Fresh Style and Andy The-Anh presented runway shows that varied from traditional fashion drama to bored models. We noticed that despite aiming to have a more diverse runway, most shows only threw in one or two “ethnic” models.

Fashion Week opened with a collection by new designers IZMA, featuring lots of feminine fur and leather. A standout piece was a fluffy, black fur skirt.

Other shows of note included David Dixon’s signature Barbie collection with 60s inspired skirts and dresses, and an at-times otherworldly inspired collection by Project Runway Canada alumni Evan Biddell.

Key Canadian looks for the Fall/Winter season include fur, leather, plaid, fine tailoring, military inspired coats and jackets and of course, down-filled coats.
