Inspired by the contradictions and beauty of Delhi, designer Anupama Dayal presented a thoughtful and retrospective collection at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013.
Notes from the designer:
Delhi, traditionally invaded, looted and plundered….a troubled and difficult past…and present. Yes, it is what it is, an important heritage city with over 3 world heritage treasures.
For me personally, this collection will be about digging deeper roots and making my peace with the city I choose to live in, work in and raise my children in.
Inspired by Mughal and Islamic art, as well as other Indian traditions, the collection includes printed monochromatic saris, kurtas, dresses, angarkha suits and lengha-style skirts with a distinctive boho/gypsy vibe. Most of the runway show was too bright, and too summer focused for an Autumn/Winter collection.
Piece we loved: The monochromatic zigzag print sari (pictured above) with red highlights on the inside border was beautiful in its simplicity.
