Celebrated actor Anupam Kher is coming to Vancouver for a rare public talk where he’ll spill the beans on his life in cinema, and maybe share what he really thought of working with Robert DeNiro.

Anupam Kher Indian Summer Festival Vancouver

On Sunday, June 14, Indian Summer Festival presents a public talk, “Anything Can Happen: An Evening With Anupam Kher.” Kher’s career spans over three decades in Indian and international cinema, and has appeared in over 400 films and plays. He’s critically acclaimed for lending gravitas and depth to his roles: as a freedom fighter in 1942 Love Story; the good cop in Parinda; a pivotal role as a non-violent politician in Sarkar; an anti-terrorist intelligence agent in A Wednesday; a professor who thought he killed Gandhi in Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara; and as the cunning villain Dr. Dang in Karma. You may also remember Anupam Kher from his role as the lovable father in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

His international breakthrough was in the coming-of-age film, Bend It Like Beckham, where he played the stern father grappling with generational and cultural challenges. He’s played similar fatherly roles in Bride and Prejudice and Canadian film Breakaway, and recently co-starred in the Academy Award-nominated Silver Linings Playbook, and Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children. Kher will have a recurring role in the new Netflix series, Sense8, from the creators of The Matrix Trilogy debuting June 5.

At this special Indian Summer Festival event, Anupam Kher will chat candidly about life in Bollywood, his chameleon-like ability to play diverse roles, and his forays into international cinema.
