You don’t need a Hallmark holiday to indulge in this chocolate cabernet – yes, they’ve combined two of our favourite things: chocolate and vino! For your drinking pleasure, we review the award-winning Chocovine, a chocolately liquor perfect for sipping after dinner or mixed in a dessert martini (or two).
The Taste Test: Our goal was to see how this Dutch-made wine compared to other chocolate liquors like Godiva and Kahlua. Smooth and sweet, the first sip was like drinking a very strongly spiked glass of chocolate milk. But give it a little time in the wine glass over some ice, and it's chocolately goodness warms on you.
How to Drink Chocovine: Pour over some ice and sip casually while dishing on the latest news with your girlfriends. Or mix a spicy Mexican-inspired chocolate martini: 2 oz Chocovine (or more…), 1 oz tequila, 0.5 oz Kahlua, 1.5 oz rum – shake with ice, strain into a martini glass and sprinkle with a pinch of chili pepper and cinnamon.
Pairs with: It's sweet, so balance it with a more simple dessert, like shortbread cookies, madeleines or vanilla ice cream. It would be yummy drizzled over a scoop of ice cream, used in place of Kahlua or Baileys in a boozy syrup, or mixed in a coffee drink.
Perfect for: A night in with the girls, to end a romantic evening, to enjoy on your own as a dessert (it is chocolate after all).
