If 2014 was Rahul Mishra’s year, then 2015 goes to Indian designer Sanjay Garg. He’s our designer to watch right now.
Sanjay Garg has been at the helm of handwoven textile brand Raw Mango since 2008. Garg created Raw Mango with a mission to create contemporary Indian handwoven textiles using traditional techniques, something which caught the eye of several fashion editors in India. His gorgeous saris have been featured in Vogue, Elle, Verve, and Harper’s Bazaar Bride. But it wasn’t until last year that Sanjay Garg created a cohesive runway collection, which he debuted at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive in August of 2014 in Mumbai.
The collection is a beautiful story of textiles, handlooms, and lush fabrics that take the form of empire waist dresses, kurta pajama suits, and lovely, heritage saris. The colours are rich emeralds, sapphires, cream, gold, and a bright pink. It’s no surprise that Sanjay Garg’s fans include Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and Soha Ali Khan, who wore a Sanjay Garg lehenga to her recent wedding reception. Sanjay Garg is our Indian designer to watch for 2015, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
