Last Thursday, a sea of white-on-white descended on Vancouver for the second annual Le Diner en Blanc, an elegant, chic picnic/secret supper that took place on the shores of False Creek.
Le Diner en Blanc started in Paris 25 years ago and has now spread all over the world. With over 13,000 on the waiting list, a lucky 2500 had the opportunity to attend the elegant affair just outside Science World in Vancouver.
Here’s how it works: you sign up in advance and then show up at a designated meeting place to check in with your group leader before moving onto the secret dinner location. Tickets are purchased in pairs and participants are given a strict dress code (all white), and you must bring everything you need to have a picnic. This includes your own table, chairs, linens, dinnerware, utensils, and food if you decide not to purchase dinner in advance.
Dinner kicked off with a twirl of napkins and at the end of the meal, we raised our sparklers as if to say, now the real fun begins! We danced to live music, drank more wine and enjoyed the feeling that we were all in this together.
For those of you who missed out on the experience, be sure to sign-up in advance for Le Diner en Blanc. Next year’s event will be bigger and you won’t want to miss out.
