DUY’s eagerly anticipated runway show did not disappoint! Created by Montreal-based Duy Nguyen in 2001, the label’s show was the designer’s prize as the 2012 winner of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up, a program designed to provide a national platform for emerging Canadian fashion designers.
The cold Canadian winter was the main inspiration for this high-end, ready-to-wear Fall 2013 collection. There was an attitude of luxury, elegance and coziness in the air. DUY‘s sophisticated collection of 27 looks is absolutely stunning and the silhouettes are flattering with just the perfect amount of sparkle.
Using his signature mix of luxurious fabrics, Nguyen created pieces using a combination of wool, wool jersey, leather, mohair and silk. The designer utilized oversized jackets and high-waist pants to add a touch of masculinity to the otherwise feminine collection of strapless gowns, swan neck dresses, sequined high-waist skirts and silk crepe tunics. Several pieces were beautifully accented with flowers and feathers, which added some exciting visual imagery.
While the main color palette was black, gray and cream, there were pops of colour with ice blue and moss green pieces that added a subtle feminine delicacy.
Show-stoppers included a swan neck embroidered tulle dress and a metallic embroidery back cleavage gown. Gorgeous! We’re already anticipating what DUY will unveil for its Spring 2014 collection.
