What better way to deal with archaic, homophobic, colonial-era laws? Satire, starring one of Bollywood’s beloved actors, Imran Khan, joined by clever comedy collective, All India Bakchod.
You may remember All India Bakchod from their brilliant anti-rape satire video starring actress Kalki Koechlin (Dev D, That Girl in the Yellow Boots, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani). The comedy troupe produces YouTube videos showcasing their off-brand, unique sense of humour that doesn’t censor or hold back (their Bollywood satire and jab at production company Yash Raj Films is indicative of that).

Their latest project hits at Section 377, a British India-era law that criminalizes gay sex and infringes on other rights for LGBT people in India. Section 377 was declared unconstitutional in 2009 by the High Court in Delhi, but that was overturned by the Supreme Court of India on December 11, 2013, with the court maintaining that amending the section is in the hands of Parliament, not the courts.
Anti-India, anti-Supreme Court and anti-bigotry protests erupted across India and around the world. The ruling also spurred All India Bakchod into action, calling upon Indian actor Imran Khan to star in their satirical take on anti-gay sentiments in the country (and really, other parts of the world too).
