While summer may seem like a faraway dream in North America, Indian designer Payal Singhal is heating things up with her new Summer Resort 2014 collection.
Payal Singhal shared a few behind-the-scenes photographs and chatted with us about “Lady Sahara,” the French Moroccan-themed Summer Resort collection she will show at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. Inspired by Marrakech and Islamic architecture, the collection uses a muted array of colours like sand, grey, rose and cerulean blue, and intricate patterns of Moroccan filigree work are incorporated in detailed embroidery in beaten metallics and graphic prints.
How did French Moroccan culture inspire this collection?
I just love Moroccan jaali and filigree work and when I read about the period when the French occupied Morocco I started to think about how French and Moroccan culture and craft could be brought together and that’s where I started from.
What is your favourite colour this season?
How do you mentally prepare for your show?
I don’t really, I just try to stay organized and be prepared because there is a lot going on at once. I talk myself into being prepared for all kinds of last minute calamities! I write a lot of things to do lists!
5 must-have items in your bag when at Lakme Fashion Week:
My phone, a kajal pencil, sunglasses, bottle of water, visiting cards.
How do you plan to relax after your show at Lakme this year?
Take a mini break with my husband and son and switch off my phone!
Hopefully everyone who wore the last collection. Some of the girls who wore it last season are: Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Yami Gautam, Shraddha Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Tisca Chopra, and Maria Goretti.
