Read our runway report from Manish Malhotra’s latest collection at India Couture Week 2014 in Delhi.
Manish Malhotra showcased the usual selection of lehengas, saris, anarkali gowns and sherwanis, all in shades of navy, gold, bronze, soft pink, and red. There was nothing bold, innovative or exciting about the show, but there were a couple of highlights: the red bridal lehengas with long sleeve blouses and contrasting light, floaty, bronze net dupattas were nice.
Trends: Mirrorwork, gold embroidery, three-quarter length sleeves, high necks and low backs, and net dupattas with a narrow gold border. Soft shades of champagne, gold, bronze and ivory, with touches of navy and red. Bandhgala vests and sherwanis for men, wide leg pants, embroidered collars or fully embroidered jackets.
Menswear: Layering long kurtas with wide leg pants and velvet vests or silk sherwanis. Considering the interesting prints, bright colours and interesting draping we saw at Anju Modi, Rohit Bahl and Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra’s menswear is a bit boring.
Styling: It’s all about the naath (nose ring). A large statement hoop or small ordornment resting delicately on the nostril is the must-have accessory. Hair is kept sleek and knotted up high on the head. Makeup is minimal with nude lips, groomed brows and lots of mascara.
