Manish Malhotra celebrates 25 years of working in the biz this year.
Last week, Manish Malhotra presented his Summer Resort collection, “Blue Runway” at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. We’ve always liked how Manish Malhotra makes an effort to support heritage crafts and women’s collectives around India with his collections. This year, he went a step further by collaborating with WEvolve to raise awareness about gender-based violence. WEvolve is a global campaign by World Bank, UN Women and ELLE India that aims to empower men and women, and challenge norms that lead to violence against women. The designer’s show concluded with models carrying signs that said gender, equality, society, empower, and more.
Onto the clothes. Manish’s Summer Resort 2015 collection centred on floral motifs, embroidered in shades of deep indigo, yellow and white, and some unfortunate misuse of fringe. Overall, not a huge leap for the designer, but that won’t stop the usual Bollywood celebs from wearing pieces from this collection on the red carpet sometime soon.
The colour story: Indigo, ivory, yellow, powder blue, pastel peach.
Key trends: Lots of fringe. Tone on tone floral embroidery. Indigo blue and white. Continued use of mirrorwork. Saris worn with jackets, crop tops with lehenga skirts. Flowy gowns in shades blue.
Looks to try: The saris, as usual, are beautiful. Florals for summer. The fringe? Not so much. We love the floral embroidered long coats paired over trousers.
