Men’s fashion at Lakme Fashion Week can be hit-or-miss, often feeling like an afterthought to womenswear. This season, we are pleasantly surprised by Manish Malhotra’s menswear collection for Summer Resort 2014.
Manish Malhotra’s menswear often lacks the beauty found in his women’s collections. But for Summer Resort 2014, simple jodhpur trousers, shirt-length kurtas, and tailored, printed bandhgalas and blazers complemented the pastel shade lehengas, zipped saris and kurta dresses he created for women.
Key Trends for Men: Blush pink and pastel suits, bandhgala jackets, Nehru vests, Jodhpur pants, trousers with cuffs worn at the ankle, printed and/or texturized vests and blazers. Our favourite look was the floral print blazer and vest worn over a kurta pajama and tan brogues for a dressed up look. Hair is short on the sides and teased up big on top, and a clean shaven or groomed beard look is key for Summer.
What to Try: Floral print vests and blazers in soft pastel shades (so chic for Summer!); sleek kurta pajamas in cream or white paired with a tailored blazer in a texturized fabric like brocade or jacquard; lean trousers with a cuffed hem at the ankle.
