As a wise young man once sang, “I will never say never,” and that is almost our motto for enjoying Priyanka Chopra’s new single “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”
The song is a catchy redo of Bonnie Raitt’s classic with an EDM twist. Lucky for Priyanka Chopra, the song will be used in a national ad campaign for the newest Beats bluetooth speaker by Dr. Dre. I almost wished this was the single Priyanka released first as it’s far more entertaining and fun than her previous songs.
Alas, these are the three things we loved most about the newest track.
1. No Poses, All Acting – Actually we fibbed, there are lots of poses of Priyanka looking despondent with a single teardrop rolling down her cheek during most of the video. She’s really hurting you guys, look at her sitting in the dark and looking onto that swimming pool where she used to frolic. We also loved that intense moment during the song, where she flips a table and sinks to the floor. It’s stellar acting and it’s great that she’s bringing that Bollywood emotion to this ballad.
2. Hot Guy Alert – Not to say Pitbull isn’t hot in many ways to other people, but hiring our Gilmore Girls crush Milo Ventimiglia made us re-watch the video a few times to swoon all over again. Milo and Priyanka have an easy and sexy chemistry throughout, but we are a bit partial to watching Milo sigh and sportingly take Holi colours to the face. We’re even more impressed that he’s the type of boyfriend who doesn’t mind swinging his girl around so that we all get a chance to
buy see a Nokia phone and admire his gorgeousness!
3. A Happier Ending – The song is quite heartbreaking, and most other covers of Bonnie Rait’s original have focused on the mopey parts, but we like that Priyanka ended the video on a slight note of empowerment, as she slams down his photo and runs off into the sunset alone. It’s a good move, and the video shows that she doesn’t care about making him love her!
We also have to give a shoutout for the production values of the video. It’s slick and thankfully not too pandering and exotic, which gives us the hope that Priyanka doesn’t need to cash in on that anymore (hopefully).
