Now Playing: Satinder Sartaj’s Jalsa (It’s Awesome)

We’ve got Satinder Sartaj’s “Jalsa” on repeat.Satinder Sartaj Punjabi Music

We’re suckers for a good sufi song, and Punjabi singer Satinder Sartaj rarely disappoints. “Jalsa” has been on repeat for months, and for good reason. The EDM meets Punjabi sufi song is full of beautiful, sufi metaphors, some which we don’t quite understand, but they’re beautiful nonetheless.

Example 1: “The moonshine celebrates the fair, full moon, with the lake as guest, and the moon as guest. The starlight wears a milk-white dress and hails the stars – oh, it’s another world.”

Example 2: “The amorous fragrances awaken the senses and call upon the dream bird, to work out a union with the beloved.”

Written by Satinder Sartaj, “Jalsa” is from his Rangrez album, and is produced by Partners in Rhyme in the UK.

In other news, Satinder Sartaj has been filming The Black Prince, a biopic on the late Maharaja Duleep Singh, whose tragic life ended in exile from British India in 1893. The film also stars Shabana Azmi as the maharaja’s mother, and Josh’s Rup Magon, who we last saw in Speedy Singhs. The Black Prince is expected to release in 2016.
