Bombay Velvet may have received a lot of flack for its storytelling, but there’s no denying that the styling, clothes, and music are perfection.
Set in 1950s and 60s Bombay, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and director and talk show host, Karan Johar. Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap (Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur, That Girl in Yellow Boots) was influenced by film noir and gangster films, which is evident in the styling of the film throughout.
From flapper dresses to double-breasted wide lapel suits, Bombay Velvet provides a ton of style inspiration. Scroll through to see key menswear and womenswear trends from the film.
Menswear: three-piece suits, wide notch and peak lapels, double-breasted jackets and vests, tweed, printed pocket squares and cravats.
Women’s Fashion: Flapper girl style, beaded mini dresses, monochromatic dressing, fascinators, lace, pearls, and bright red matte lips. Think Gatsby-eque.
