How do you make a home in a place where conflict and violence are your everyday reality? In Valley of Saints, three characters connect through life-changing relationships, intertwined with the politically charged state of Kashmir.
Jugni Style is a proud sponsor of Valley of Saints, screening at the Vancouver International Film Festival.
The award-winning political drama by Musa Syeed (Audience Award for World Cinema: Dramatic category at Sundance 2012, no less), is set amongst the violence, environmental concerns, and personal realities surrounding the state Kashmir. With a backdrop of the beautiful Dal Lake, Valley of Saints follows childhood friends Gulzar and Afzal as they try to escape the poverty and conflict of their daily lives, only to be distracted by an enchanting scientist, Asifa, along the way.
What to expect: An absorbing drama that pushes old Bollywood characterizations of the decades-old political conflicts in Kashmir, to a different level by situating it within the context of the impoverished and environmentally affected Dal Lake area. The film also brings to light the very real issues around water quality and the environment in a region where news stories focus on terrorism and politics.
Valley of Saints plays at the Vancouver International Film Festival on September 27, 30 and October 2, 2012. The Vancouver International Film Festival opens September 27 and runs until October 12, 2012.
