Oh India Fashion Week. Full of exquisite design, elegant shows and a heavenly mix of Indian heritage pieces with well-draped dresses and tailored jackets. Divine.
From the runways of New Delhi, we bring you the latest fashion trends from India’s leading designers presenting at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, Autumn/Winter 2013 collections.
Surily Goel described her collection as being focused on elegance, simplicity and glamour, but to us, it was a little boring. With abstract Aztec prints (the most interesting part of the show), sequins, wide-leg jumpsuits and hotpants, Surily presented a decidedly uninspired and outdated collection. Even the black sequin maxi dress worn by actress Preity Zinta was blah.
Key themes: Jewel tones (emerald green, burgundy, navy), a variety of silhouettes and draping, jumpsuits, sequins, and maxi and cocktail dresses.
Favourite looks: Hmm, that’s tough. The honeycomb cutout shoulders (see above) were interesting.
Delhi-based Nikasha Tawadey presented a collection with two personalities: bright and a touch gaudy vs. demure golden outfits. We didn’t like the multi-layered churidaar suits or the ill-fitting high-waisted pants and brocade halter tops.
Key themes: Sheer fabrics, jewel tones, bright pinks, rich beige-gold. Halter blouses, floor-length kurta-style dresses, volume.
Favourite looks: The makeup was right on trend – deep burgundy lips and strong brows looked stunning with the gold outfits. The saris were elegant and understated in soft pink, gold and cream shades with minimal gold borders and detailing.
